How to install MAXQDA

Once you have downloaded the appropriate installer, follow the steps outlined below based on your device's operating system.

Windows installation

  1. First, locate the installer and double-click it to begin the installation process.
  2. Once installation is complete, the system prompts you to start MAXQDA. To proceed, check the box to start MAXQDA and click Finish.
  3. After installing MAXQDA, you can safely delete the installer file.

MacOS installation

  1. First, locate the installer in your Downloads folder and double-click it to install the software.
  2. Then, a dialog box will open. Drag the MAXQDA icon into the Applications folder.
  3. Once the installation is complete, find MAXQDA in your Applications folder and double-click it to start the program.
  4. After installing MAXQDA, you can safely delete the installer file.

On how many computers can I install MAXQDA?

The number of devices on which you can install MAXQDA depends on the type of license you have:

  • Single-user licenses
    You can install MAXQDA on two devices but can use it on one device at a time.
  • 12-month student licenses
    You may install MAXQDA on two devices but can use it on one device at a time.
  • Six-month semester licenses
    You are able to install the software on one device only.
  • Network (university/campus) licenses
    You may install MAXQDA on two devices but can use it on one device at a time. Network licenses allow you to install MAXQDA on up to twice as many devices as seats purchased. However, MAXQDA can only be used simultaneously on one device per seat. For example, if you purchase five seats for a Network license, you can install MAXQDA on up to 10 devices (two installations per seat), but you can only use it simultaneously on five devices (one per seat).

How to uninstall MAXQDA

You can uninstall MAXQDA by following the instructions for your operating system:

  • Windows 11:
    1. Go to Start > All Apps and find MAXQDA.
    2. Right-click and select Uninstall, or directly click the MAXQDA Uninstall icon.

  • Windows 10:
    1. Open Start, and find MAXQDA.
    2. Right-click and select Uninstall.

  • MacOS:
    1. Open the Applications folder.
    2. Find MAXQDA, right-click, select Move to Bin, or drag and drop the software directly into the bin.
Important:
  • Uninstalling the software does not affect your MAXQDA subscription or billing status. Your subscription remains active whether the software is installed or not, until it expires or is canceled.
  • Please review your subscription settings, such as renewal options, in the Subscription Manager.
  • If you are using MAXQDA by connecting to a server and do not own a license, then, to stop using the software, you can simply uninstall it.
