Learn all about Mixed Methods Design and Analysis in the upcoming one-day workshop (in English) on “Mixed Methods Research Design and Analysis”. The workshop is presented by Mixed Methods experts Prof. Burke Johnson and Prof. Udo Kuckartz. It is offered as a cooperation project between VERBI Software and the “Marburg Research Group for Methods and Evaluation” (MAGMA).
Workshop Description
The presenters will first overview the history and content of the research approach known as mixed methods research (MMR). This includes a brief review of qualitative and quantitative research, followed by the concepts of mixing and integration. The presenters describe the different kinds of MMR and their relations to research questions. Next, the presenters review popular mixed methods design typologies (e.g., Creswell and Plano Clark, 2011) and show how to construct more advanced designs to address particular research questions. The major kinds of validity in qualitative and quantitative research are briefly reviewed and the nine major kinds of validity/legitimation in MMR are explained in depth to ensure that a strong and defensible mixed design is constructed and implemented.
Last, significant time is focused on data analysis in MMR. Combining these research components properly (research questions, research design, validity types, and data analysis) will enable researchers to conduct MMR studies that produce valid results. Prerequisites: Workshop attendees should bring their own research questions so that they can think about designing their own mixed methods research study with the aid of the two workshop presenters.
