Additional Comments
If you are working with challenging projects and/or large media files adequate computer hardware is recommended. This also applies for newer operating systems or for the use of virtual machines on a MAC
MAXQDA is a Windows program; in order to use it on MAC OS, you will need an emulation software like BootCamp or Parallels (For more information regarding the use of MAXQDA on a Mac take a look at our FAQ page.)
For some features of MAXQDA it is necessary to have Microsoft Word 2003 or higher installed (import of DOC/X files, Smart Publisher export).
Portable licenses (USB flash drive)
USB flash drive: Please use a common USB flash drive. A portable license can NOT be installed directly on a computer, laptop or on an (external) hard drive. If you use an encrypted USB flash drive or a USB flash drive with a protective mechanism, we cannot guarantee for the proper functionality of MAXQDA.
Host Computer: Portable licenses work on the following operating systems: Windows 8, 7, Vista and XP.

Size: MAXQDA will need at least 130 MB of free space on your USB flash drive.
Speed: If you only use the USB flash drive to install and run MAXQDA (and save your project file on the guest computer while working with them) there are no specific requirements for the writing and reading speed of the USB flash drive. If you wish to edit your project files directly on the flash drive, a write speed of at least 10 MB per second is recommended.
Encryption: Using an USB stick that is encrpyted or has another protective mechanisms could lead to the portable license not working correctly.
Network/PC lab/Campus licenses (Server PC)
Operating System: Windows XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, 7, 8
RAM: 2 GB or more
Environment: Network and pc lab licenses must be installed in a user-server environment.
MAXServer: Network licenses need to be set up and managed with our license management tool MAXServer. This requires the server PC to have Windows (Windows XP or newer).
Access: The purchaser of the license is responsible for ensuring that only authorized users access the software.
