If individual variables are not correctly identified during the import of survey data from an Excel spreadsheet, one of the following problems may be the cause:

• Variable names in MAXQDA are up to 127 characters long. If the Excel spreadsheet contains variable names that are longer, only the first 127 characters will be imported. Please ensure that the variable names differ in the first 127 characters, so that MAXQDA will be able to assign the values correctly.
• Please check whether your Excel table contains unnecessary spaces at the end of variable names and delete them.
