I have been a MAXQDA Trainer since 2012. I hold a PhD in Sociology and run QGap. – an independent consultancy offering qualitative research, evaluation and methods training. I have taught research methods for many years, including workshops on qualitative research and interviewing for the Essex Summer School. 

I have used MAXQDA across a range of funded and applied research projects to analyse many kinds of qualitative data, including interviews, focus groups, open-ended survey responses and documentary sources. More recently I have been working with MAXQDA's AI Assist, and I'm especially interested in helping researchers use it critically and transparently. My article "Technological Reflexivity in Practice: How MAXQDA, NVivo, and ChatGPT Shape Qualitative Survey Analysis" (Qualitative Research in Psychology, 2026, https://doi.org/10.1080/14780887.2025.2602820) looks at how analysis software and AI tools shape analytic practice. My Sage Research Methods guide, “How to Use Generative AI to Assist the Analysis of Qualitative Data” (https://doi.org/10.4135/9781036217471), offers practical guidance that keeps the human analyst at the centre of the work.

Through QGap., I am happy to run workshops, bespoke training for teams, or one-to-one support, for anyone from first-time users to experienced researchers.
