Overview

This workshop will examine a variety of facilities in MAXQDA that help you dig more deeply into your data. These tools assist as you think about underlying themes and they help you to interrogate your data effectively. The workshop will include discussion of the methodological purposes and justifications behind the use of these functions, and these will range from purely qualitative approaches to mixed methods and quantitising applications. The workshop will show that analysis is much more than the coding process and covers a great variety of other tools in computer-assisted qualitative data analysis. After completing this workshop, you will have greater confidence to explore and question your data in multiple ways and so find more subtle or deeper themes. You will also be more able to support your theories with relevant evidence and thus increase your impact. You will have learned when it may or may not be appropriate to use each of these facilities.

Content

  • Visualising tools – code colors and code frequency browsers – to think about and see your data in different ways.
  • Categorising tools – using variables to compare sub-groups in a variety of ways, such as the Interactive Quote Matrix and Crosstabs, and converting code frequencies to vartiables.
  • Summarising tools, Code Maps and Document Maps.
  • Using Q-T-T to store and document your developing analysis. The workshop will comprise a blend of demonstrations and hands-on exercises, using a mixture of shared datasets and your own data. There will be many opportunities to ask questions.

For Whom

For all those who are looking to extend their understanding of and skills with MAXQDA beyond a basic level of applying and retrieving thematic codes.

Requirements

Knowledge of MAXQDA basic tools is required. You should be able to import data, create and apply codes and retrieve coded segments by activation.

Laptop

Please bring a laptop with the most current version of MAXQDA (Windows or Mac) installed to this workshop. The free trial version is sufficient. Please notice the system requirements.
