SRT file not associating with audio media file

07.03.2019, 16:17

I have a timestamped transcript that I want to associate with an MP3 audio file, but when I import the transcript SRT file either through the general Documents import function or the Transcripts with Timestamps function, it simply imports as a text file.

Looking at the MAXQDA Manual, it says that importing an SRT file results in "MAXQDA imports the file and asks you for the corresponding video file."

This is not happening.

Is there something special about preparing the SRT file that would result in the dialog box to link a corresponding file, or does the functionality only work with video and not audio?

Solved.
Had to edit the timestamp format

The timestamps in the exported file had incompatible formats:

Here is a sample of the output from the transcription software (SPEXT)
1
0:00:02,900 --> 0:00:05,200
Okay, so now we are

2
0:00:05,200 --> 0:00:07,500
recording. Okay, so we're going

3
0:00:07,500 --> 0:00:08,400
to talk about a few

4
0:00:08,400 --> 0:00:10,900
things that surprised confused or

5
0:00:10,900 --> 0:00:12,800

I edited it as follows, replacing the comma with a period, and " --> " with "-":

1
0:00:02.900-0:00:05.200
Okay. so now we are

2
0:00:05.200-0:00:07.500
recording. Okay. so we're going

3
0:00:07.500-0:00:08.400
to talk about a few

4
0:00:08.400-0:00:10.900
things that surprised confused or

5
0:00:10.900-0:00:12.800
you in any of your
