How is an IF-THEN test performed in MAXQDA?

14.03.2023, 07:54

How to do an IF-THEN test, as suggested by for example Miles & Huberman & Saldana (2014) in MAXQDA?

Imagine that I look for dreamers= lazy dudes with impossible expectations.

An IF-THEN test is one way to test an assumption; logic is below.

Codes are ”fabulous job”, “enormous salary”, ”lazy”, “don’t want to study”

Kind of temporary/calculated codes i.e. themes (added by fulfilment = codes hold true in case); “high expectations”, “low performer”

The conclusion is “dreamer”

Sample code doing this

IF ”fabulous job” AND “enormous salary”
THEN ADD THEME “high expectations”
IF ”lazy” AND “don’t want to study”
THEN ADD THEME “low performer”

IF “high expectations” AND “low performer”
CONCLUSION “dreamer”
