Broken file?

13.09.2017, 20:39

In addition to my program becoming unresponsive and having difficulty closing, today, I received a message indicating the project file cannot be opened because the file may be broken. I always safely remove any flash drives prior to disconnecting them or turning off the computer, so that shouldn't be the issue. As mentioned, my program has become progressively more sluggish and unresponsive as I add interview transcripts to the project. However, the project itself is still VERY small.

Dear Alan,

thank your for bringing this to our attention. To find out what's going on, I have just sent you an email asking for your project file. My educated guess would be that this happened because at one point, the usb drive disconnected and reconnected while MAXQDA was saving data to the project file. One will most probably only realize that this dis- and reconnecting has happened if windows system sounds are activated. From my experience, it's almost always either this or a cloud-service making problems.
However, this is just speaking from experience. I am not at liberty to discuss [u:1wqqk60f]anything[/u:1wqqk60f] related to our clients in public, so there will be no update on this or any other support case here from my side.
Kind regards,

Andreas

Hello Alan260,

I am trying to decide if maxQDA is the right software to use for a project with a large volume of data (text transcripts of 70 interviews) Could you tell me if this problem you were experiencing has been resolved to your satisfaction?

Thank you!

I just had a similar issue happen last night. I was working on my dissertation and the external hard drive (where I store my file and the program) made a strange noise and then suddenly stopped working. When I was able to get the external hard drive working again an error popped up stating "The file may be already opened, or it has the wrong file format, or it may be broken." I worked until Midnight and tried everything to repair the file including uninstalling the program and reinstalling it. Nothing worked. I e-mailed the support team in a panic and uploaded my file and an explanation. Within several hours they had the filed e-mailed back to me, repaired, with all of my data on it. I can't thank the support team enough, especially Christian who helped with the ticket! I would have lost 13 hours worth of work and been set back almost a week. What a life saver!

We have tried to open up a file this morning (that worked fine last week) and have received a message saying that the file is broken. We don’t use flash drive storage for our data – but it is kept on a shared server. Any suggestions about a solution?
