Export transcription with timestamps

26.10.2016, 03:56

I can't figure out how to export a document transcribed in MAXQDA with timestamps. I would think that if one could import documents from transcription software, that one would be able to export them in the same format. The only option seems to be exporting with paragraph numbers, however.

PS: even when using the "export teamwork" option, the timestamps are lost when the exported file is opened in MAXQDA.

Hi pedIt3,

Many thanks for your posts. MAXQDA does not support to export the timestamps inside the document, sorry. We are currently working on a function to export the timestamps aside exported coded segments.

Is there meanwhile a way to export transcripts with timestamps to any format? (for example F4?)
It's a really necessary option if working with multiple Persons on the same sample but with different softwares.
best regards

Dear Jakob,

thanks for asking. Unfortunately, the answer is no, that is currently not implemented. I know it's already on our wishlist, but I can't tell you how long it is going to take until it gets into the program.

Kind regards,

Hello, when referring to the data in my analysis, I need to refer to the time - how do people get around this if timestamps can´t be exported or seen in the document overview? It seems like a nightmare going back into every document and checking the time for each segment. Surely there is a better way to do it?? Or do people just submit the transcripts and then refer to the paragraph number? Either way will need a lot of extra work. I hope someone has a good solution. All the best, Franziska

Hello Franziska,
Yes, usually researchers refer to the paragraph from the transcript when using quotes from an interview. It depends on the type of publication, but it is also pretty common to include the (anonymized) transcript, e.g. when handing in a thesis.

When you copy a quote from MAXQDA you can automatically include the source information (Document name/paragraph) to save time. Here is a short explanation how that is done: https://www.maxqda.com/maxqda12-tip-month-copy-segment-source-information
