Document Variable - max character size?

17.06.2021, 23:35

Trying to figure out how many characters a document variable of type "text" can hold.
The document label can be 255 characters, but how long can the data be?

Version: MAXQDA 2020

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for your question! The values of text variables can hold a maximum of 63 characters.

I hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Maren

Thanks Marin, Andreas,
Is there a table someplace that lists the size constraints of all the data types in MAXQDA?
Like also how big a Memo can be, a Paraphrase, a Summary, code comments, etc?

Hi Matthew,

No, we do not have this information in one place, but scattered in the corresponding chapters of the online manual. For example, limitations concerning variables can be found here:
https://www.maxqda.com/help-mx20-stats/limits-and-technical-notes

MAXDictio related limitations: https://www.maxqda.com/help-mx20-dictio/limits-of-maxdictio

General technical limitations: https://www.maxqda.com/help-mx20/technical-data-and-information/limitations-technical-information

By the way, you will soon get the handout from Stefan's special workshop, which actually contains a similar table with the data you want ;)

Kind regards
