How to access Youtube video in MaxQDA

15.06.2018, 20:36

Any ideas on how to play and analyze a YouTube video in MAXQDA 2018?

If I am a channel owner, I could download an MP4 file and import that as a document in MAXQDA, but what if it's not my channel?

I don't see another way to import or play a YouTube video in MAXQDA, but maybe you have some ideas?

Best
Matthew

Hi Matthew,

finally something I can help you with :-)

You can do this with Firefox- (which is what I use) or Chrome-Addons, but I think the latter one doesn't have that many good working addons. Personally I use "Video Download Helper" and "1 Click Youtube Video Downloader" (the latter one seems to work better at the moment), and I can capture pretty much anything (sometimes you need to download and install a side application, like for "Video Download Helper").

I found these two webpages with further information on the subject:

https://www.wikihow.com/Download-Any-Video-from-Any-Website-for-Free
https://www.eltima.com/firefox-youtube-downloader.html

The first link also speaks about websites that allow you to download youtube-videos by entering a URL; i just found this one for example (don't know if I used it yet, there are many sites like this): https://catchvideo.net/

In short, I think you can download almost anything that hasn't pretty tough copyright-protection (like Netflix, although I'm pretty sure you could capture this as well with the necessary equipment, e.g. by capturing the video output signal somehow).

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,

Andreas

Also look for Ant Video downloader, a free extension. YouTube makes it difficult to download items. There are also free sites that have tools, and in some cases maybe you just want the audio since audio takes up less space than video. I use it to download newscasts for various events that I am studying.
