Dear mloxton,

thank you for bringing this to our attention! Is

https://www.ted.com/playlists/23/the_future_of_medicine

the only web page you can't import? Does it work when you create a new project file and try to import from there?

There are two things that come to my mind that could help:

*Reset user settings*

1) Press the windows-key + R and enter the following path:
2) Delete the files "MAXQDA12.ini" and (if existing) "MAXQDA12.ini.LOCK"

This will not delete any of your data – only the list of recently opened projects will be cleared, window arrangements reset, and entered search terms in the lexical search will be deleted.

*Start MAXQDA as Administrator*

To do so, right-click on the MAXQDA application symbol, and select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu.

I can see that you are using a portable version of MAXQDA. It would be interesting to know if a standard (non-portable) version on the same computer works in this regard. If you want to try this, you can download the trial version here: www.maxqda.de/updates/2018/MAXQDA2018_Setup.msi

Kind regards,

Andreas

Thanks Andreas
In answer to your questions:
1. I have tried five websites (including this one) and none result in a pdf or graphic document after the import is attempted
- https://www.theguardian.com/uk
2. I have tried with a clean project, without import success
3. I renamed the *.ini files and launched as administrator, without any change in the import success

I will try installing the trial version and report back

I could not install the trial version on this PC without IT help, but I took the opportunity to try the portable version on a different PC.

I was able to successfully import documents from the same websites on a different PC running Windows 10.

I installed updates to the Windows 7 PC and retried, but was unsuccessful.

As a next step, I will try the portable version on a different Windows 7 PC

Thanks for the update! Hm yes it would be very interesting to know if it works on another windows 7 PC with this portable version. We have PCs here running windows 7, but we can't reproduce the error.. neither with portable nor with standard versions.

Another guess from our programmers is that this could be linked to either the format of the USB-stick, or that for some reason windows 7 doesn't have write access for this stick (just copy some file over to see if this is true).

In any case, I'm afraid we will have to dig a bit deeper to solve this mystery... I will send you an email with a link to upload the log file and some instructions to get more information, if that's okay with you (since it contains sensitive information, uploading it here wouldn't be a good idea).

Thanks.
In answer to your question, yes, I can save to the thumb drive, and MAXQDA can save projects to it with the original Win 7 machine.

I tested on a different PC running Windows 7, using the same web sites, and saw the same problem that after it tries to import the MAXQDA Web Collector files, I get a brief progress bar, and then nothing.

Here are the PC details:

Tried the demo version as suggested, but this also does not work on the second Win 7 machine.
