cursor jumps to the end of document

24.02.2018, 16:03

In a few text documents in my file, the cursor keeps jumping to the end every time i try to select any text inside the file. There is no way to edit the file anymore or to select text within it, because the cursor immediately jumps to the end.

What might be the cause? How to solve?

Thank you!

Dear lauri,

I haven't heard of a case like this yet, but somehow, we'll figure it out. You are using MAXQDA 12, right? Does this (only) happen when the EDIT-Mode is activated, or also when you try to code the data? When you mark a segment, does the "jumping to the end" of the cursor also deselect your current selection at the same time? You're sure this only happens to specific documents? What file type are those documents?

It would be interesting to see what this happens when you duplicate the documents. To do so fast, just press CTRL+A in the document in question, then drag&drop the whole selection into the "Document System". That will create a new document. (If the document is already coded, you can then transfer your codes easily by rightclicking on the old document and selecting "Teamwork > Export", and then proceed in the same manner with the new document, only this time, you select "Teamwork Import".)

There is also a chance that whatever is happening there has to do with user settings being messed up for some reason. So you can reset your user settings to find out if that helps. To do that, navigate in the menu to Project > Preferences... > User Interface > Reset User Settings. This will not delete any data from your project, but only entered search strings, the list of recently opened projects etc., and it will reset the display of the four-windows-screen.

Last but not least: Probably the fastest way to understand what is going on here would be to have a look at the project file, and try to reproduce the error here. Would it be possible for you to send us this file?

Kind regards,
