VERBI GmbH is the responsible entity within the meaning of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (Art. 4(7) GDPR) and further national data protection regulations of Germany.

Data sharing with 3rd parties

Your personal data will not be transferred or passed on to third parties in any circumstances other than those listed below. We will only disclose any personal data which we have collected via this website to third parties if:

  • you have given your express consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR,
  • it is legally permissible and is necessary for the processing of a contractual relationship with you in accordance with Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, or
  • in the event that a legal obligation exists for the transfer pursuant to Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR, or
  • the disclosure pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR is necessary to assert, exercise or defend legal claims and there is no reason to assume that there are overriding interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject which require the protection of their personal data.

Data we collect and process

Your data is collected in three different ways:

  1. When you visit our forum, our web servers temporarily store the connection data of the requesting computer, the webpages you visit on our site, the date and duration of your visit, the identification data of the browser and operating system type used and the website from which you are visiting us for the purpose of system security. This information is stored until it is automatically deleted, usually after one week.
  2. phpBB creates multiple cookies when you visit the forum. Cookies are small text files that your browser stores as temporary files. Two of these cookies contain a unique user number (user ID) and an anonymous session number (session ID), which is automatically assigned to you by phpBB. A third cookie is created once you have visited topics and is used to store information about the posts you have read in order to mark the unread posts. For further information regarding our use of cookies on our website generally, please see our Website Privacy Statement.
  3. Further data is collected by transmitting this data to the operator. This applies - without any claim to completeness - for example to posts or messages you create as a guest to the forum, data collected during registration and posts or messages created by you after registering for the forum. Your user account information consists of at least a unique user name (which can be a pseudonym), a password to log in with this account and a personal and valid e-mail address.

Purpose and legal basis for collecting and processing this data

We process the data listed above for the following purposes:

  • to ensure a smooth connection of the website,
  • to ensure that our website and forum are easy to use,
  • to evaluate our website's security and stability
  • to identify potential misuse or improper access to our website (DoS/DDoS attacks, etc.),
  • to register a user account,
  • for the creation of forum posts and messages, and
  • for further administrative purposes.

We process the data processed by cookies on the basis of our legitimate interests, insofar as cookies are concerned, which serve solely to optimise your visit to our site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We use cookies in connection with analytics services exclusively on the basis of your previously given consent, which you can voluntarily give us by clicking the corresponding button in the "cookie banner" when visiting our website (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

The legal basis for the processing of data collected in connection with the use of the forum or registering for the forum is your explicit consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. As a rule, we do not use the collected data for the purpose of personally identifying individuals. We reserve the right to do so in the event that this becomes necessary in order to identify potential misuse or improper access to our website.

VERBI takes all necessary technical and organizational security measures to protect your data from loss or misuse. Your data is stored in a secure operating environment that is not accessible to the public. Should you wish to contact VERBI by e-mail, however, we would like to highlight that the confidentiality of the information transmitted is not guaranteed. The content of e-mails can be viewed by third parties. We therefore recommend that you send us confidential information by post only.

Your password is stored with a one-way encryption (hash) to make sure it is secure. However, it is recommended that you do not use this password on other websites. The password is your key to your user account for the forum, so be careful with it. In particular, no representative of VERBI, the phpBB Group, or a third party will legitimately ask you for your password. If you have forgotten your password, you can use the function "I have forgotten my password". The phpBB software will ask for your username and email address and then send a newly generated password to this address, which you can then use to access the forum.

Storage period

In principle, we store the information that you provide to us when registering for the forum until you deregister from the forum. If a longer storage of this data is required by law, it will be stored within this time frame. If you no longer want us to store your data, please inform us immediately. In this case, please contact our data protection officer:

In the latter case, you have a general right of objection, which we will implement without specifying a particular situation.

In addition, you have a general right of appeal to the data protection supervisory authority responsible for you. The authority responsible for VERBI GmbH is the "Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information" ("Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit").
