MAXQDA could not connect to the activation server (error code 12a1)

It was not possible to activate MAXQDA, because MAXQDA was not able to connect to our activation server. This was probably caused by a firewall blocking the connection.
We kindly ask you to change your firewall settings in order to allow MAXQDA to access our activation server.

Windows

  1. Press the Windows button on your keyboard and type in “Firewall”. After choosing “Windows Firewall” a new window will open. Click on “Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall” in the upper left corner of the window.
  2. An overview of apps that are allowed through your firewall will appear. Click “Change settings” to edit the list. You might have to confirm this step with your administrator password.
  3. If MAXQDA 12 is already part of the list, please allow the program to communicate through the Windows Firewall in all networks by checking all three boxes.
  4. If MAXQDA 12 does not appear in the list, click “Allow another app…” in the lower part of the window.
  5. Another window will open. Choose MAXQDA 12 from the list if possible. Should it not be listed, click “Browse…” and select the file “MAXQDA12.exe” from the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\MAXQDA 12. Click “Add” to add it to the list.
  6. Afterwards allow MAXQDA 12 communication by checking the boxes as explained in step 3.

Online activation should now be possible! Please try to activate MAXQDA 12.

Mac

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen and select “System Preferences” then “Security & Privacy” and open the tab “Firewall”.
  2. Click on “Firewall Options”. It might be necessary to first click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your administrator password for confirmation.
  3. Uncheck the option to “Block all incoming connections”. Check “Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections” and click on “+”.
  4. Your application folder opens up. Choose “MAXQDA 12” and click on “Add” to allow all incoming connections for MAXQDA. Confirm your selection by clicking “OK” and close the window “Security”.

Online activation should now be possible! Please try to activate MAXQDA 12.
