Tip of the month: Transfer your license to a new computer
MAXQDA Tip of the month – February 2012
Transfer your license to a new system
When you first bought MAXQDA you installed MAXQDA on your computer(s) and activated it with your personal serial number. Now you possibly own a new computer and you want to transfer MAXQDA to this new system or maybe you want to reinstall Windows. To do so, it is not sufficient to just uninstall MAXQDA – it is necessary to manually deactivate it on your old computer, before moving your license to a new computer.
To transfer your license open MAXQDA and go to „?“ > „License“. In the dialog window that opens you will need to choose „License transfer/return“ and „Transfer license“. Now you deactivated MAXQDA on this computer.
Now you can install and activate MAXQDA on your new computer just like you did when you first purchased it. If you need more information about this topic you can also check out our FAQs.

Is your “License transfer” button greyed out?
To transfer a license, you need to use MAXQDA as an Administrator. With Windows XP it is enough to be logged in with admin rights. With Windows Vista and Windows 7 it might be necessary to right click on the MAXQDA icon and choose “Run as Administrator…” when starting MAXQDA.
Important: Due to technical reasons it is not possible to reactivate your license on the same system that you deactivated it on. It can only be reactivated on the same computer if you reinstall Windows, too.
