Problems with pasting / importing multi-media document

Postby varlokkur on 27.03.2011, 20:50

Hello,
I'm trying to copy some fieldnote documents into MaxQDA, but I've hit a snag. Several of my documents have large images which are print-outs of websites, along with normal text that I added to describe the websites. I originally typed these up in OneNote, but have since copied them to Word documents. However, when I try to copy the contents of the Word document and copy it into a new document in MaxQDA, the program freezes up. It uses up to 50% of my CPU but after waiting for several minutes, it still doesn't produce the document. I eventually have to use task manager to kill the program. I tried to import the Word document, instead, but this doesn't work either: it pops up an error messages that says "Server Busy - The action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose 'Switch to' to activate the busy program and correct the problem." However, clicking 'Switch to' just causes the Start Menu to open up, and Retry causes the error message to pop up again. The Cancel button is greyed out, so I had to use task manager to kill MaxQDA again.

Is MaxQDA unable to import documents that include jpg or bitmap files?

The error message is here:

Hi,

you could try to update your installation to latest version by choosing "? > Search for updates".
If this doesn't help you could save the files in Rich Text Format with Word and try to import them.
If this doesn't help either we kindly ask you to send us the files via our online support formula:

Best,
Stefan

Just wanted to report back that, after updating, I was able to copy and paste the mixed-media document into MaxQDA. Thanks for the continued improvements!
