Sentiment Analysis?

08.05.2014, 23:09

I am looking at doing sentiment analysis of large amounts of text, and wondered how others are doing this.
Last year I experimented with sentiment analysis plugins for R statistical package, but while this was good for proof of concept, it was too fragile as a working solution.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

MAXQDA doesn't offer an automatic functionality for sentiment analysis, but you may use MAXDictio for this: if you have words that "count" as negative and others that "count" as positive you can create a dictionary in MAXDictio and you can perform a quantitative content analysis based on this dictionary.

MAXQDA has the advantege that you can combine dictionary based analysis with manual coding: you are able to split up and structure your texts in units by coding them.

Please have a look in this MAXDictio manual: http://www.maxqda.com/download/manuals/ ... io_eng.pdf
It's for version 10, but the underlying ideas are the same as in version 11.

Hope this helps!
