"This is an unknown error" message

14.06.2016, 19:57

Hello,

I am using MAXQDA 10 and I have been coding a lot of data, but today I keep getting "this is an unknown error" whenever I try to start the program, and I have to close the program again. Is there a common fix for this? I also was going to uninstall the program and reinstall, and I wanted to ask whether my data would be lost if I did this? I have backup copies of the MAXQDA data files, so was hoping I could just click on them again once the program is reinstalled? I am afraid to reinstall until I know just in case it will not work and i lose my data.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Version: MAXQDA 10

Hello,

The message may occur, because of an issue with the license file. We kindly ask you to contact our support staff via the web form at the bottom of this page:
www.maxqda.com/onlinesupport

Your data is saved in MAXQDA project files with the extension .mx4 and should not be harmed in any way - it is just MAXQDA not starting.

Best regards on behalf of the MAXQDA team,

That's reassuring. I've managed to get it to start again without the error message, but when I try to open my mx4 files, the program is just blank. No data, no codes or anything. Any suggestions?

Hello,

You can try to reset the user settings:
1. Please open MAXQDA
2. Create a new blank project
3. Open "Project > Options"
4. Check the box for "Reset user settings", click OK
5. Restart MAXQDA.

Hope this helps, best regards
Stefan
