"MAXQDA can't import the file" V11.1.0 and prior. Windows 7

Intermittently getting error message "MAXQDA can't import the file. Please check if file is opened in another program."

This happens whether I am dragging and dropping or opening from the dialogue box in MAXQDA, and mostly when I am importing a file that is on SharePoint.
Typically it happens when I am doing a bulk upload, but also happens on an individual file.
It has never been the case that the file was actually open already.

If I try again it usually imports, but sometimes it will only import the file after several attempts.

My thought is that it is fine to warn me that somebody else may be working on a file, but I should have the option to import anyway.

Dear mloxton,

this error message appears whenever there is a conflict between Word and MAXQDA. It is not necessarily connected with Word actually being open, but MAXQDA needs Word to convert Word-documents to rtf-documents. For the time being, a way to avoid the problem is to save Word-documents as rtf-documents. We are working on this problem and hope to optimize it in a future version of MAXQDA.
