Hi,

we suggest to install a codec pack like the free and open source ffdshow:

http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

We will improve the media capability of MAXQDA 11 for Windows in the next month and it should then work fine without the need of installing a codec pack.

Best,

Has this been updated? I'm also having a problem with the codecs.

My video data files are MP4 videos. On my computer, they will play with no problem on VLC, Windows Media Player, Transana, and InqScribe. However, when I try to import them into MaxQDA 11, it says I don't have the right codec for them. I would really like to avoid downloading the codec package you guys recommend on your FAQ, as it has given me problems in the past. Converting the files would be very time consuming and waste a lot of disk space. I'm not sure why the videos would play everywhere else, but not in this program. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi almk42,

we are currently working on updating the video engine in MAXQDA 11 for Windows and will provide an update in the next months which will make it easier to handle different file types.

Meanwhile we suggest to try the ffdshow codecs which are open source and come without any advertising etc.
http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

If this doesn't help: please contact us via our support formula (mention this forum thread) and we will provide you with an upload link where you can send us one mp4 file and we will check what may help here, as video files may be very special: http://www.maxqda.com/support/onlinesupport

If you have an mp4 that doesn't work and is less than 10 MB in size you can upload the file directly with this formula.

Best regards,
Stefan

Hi,

I had the same problem on Win 7, but the issue was solved after I installed the codecs available on the following link:
